Mobile Enterprise App Stores: The SAP Game Changer

Thriving mobile apps work on a simple premise: ease of download, installation, updates and finally, uninstalling it. However, there are two other attributes of mobile apps that have attracted attention recently. Firstly, most mobile apps offer trial versions so that users can legitimately try out the product before purchase. This way users try a little of the app and then get addicted to it. Secondly, the variety of platforms has shifted the issue from how the app works to the overall user experience. <br />
<br />
SAP's Mobile Enterprise App Stores (EAS) have noticed these emerging trends and is an early adopter of applying consumer trends to enterprise environments. However, SAP needs to change its time-tested approaches to business and move away from developing enterprise applications using its proprietary programming language. SAP plans to allow developers to create and sell software that integrates with their platforms. This may sound simple enough, but SAP needs to do a lot of groundwork before developers can build on top of its solutions.

Mobile enabling the enterprise data

Today's workforce is both distributed and mobile while modern technologies have blurred the lines between business and personal lives. This has thrust middleware - or the integration layer - back into the spotlight. Additionally, enterprise systems must be made available to remote workforces over heterogeneous networks using an extraordinary variety of mobile devices with offline/ online capabilities. Thus, modern middleware solutions have to address multiple challenges to integrate an organization that is constantly on the move. The best way to accomplish an integrated organization structure and deal with mobile workforces is to map out a clear roadmap and strategy to mobile enable backend systems. <br />
<br />
As mobile workforces continue to grow, solutions such as Sybase Unwired Platform (SUP) from SAP along with Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions like Afaria can address all the challenges in mobile enabling the enterprise.

E-Invoicing: Fulfilling the Promise of Collaboration

E-invoicing is the promise of the future. Companies save money on printing and postage; and also profit from the benefits of automating the processes for all invoice-related tasks-error reduction, timely payments, improved compliance and controls, better visibility of liabilities, and better understanding and control of expenditures. <br />
<br />
According to DB Research & Billentis, market penetration has grown from 1.7 percent to 7 percent across European countries in the past five years; and in a 2010 survey by Paystream, 27 percent of respondents in the U.S. said they were either using or starting to deploy e-invoicing, up from 24 percent a year earlier. However, these figures are still far short of universal adoption and the benefits far outweigh any possible technology costs. E-invoicing could yield huge potential savings, resolve inefficiencies and errors, and create new business opportunities - organizations need to embrace it as a collaboration solution. How can you develop a strategy that is aligned with third party stakeholders and internal business processes? How can you rope in your supplier and customer base for better collaboration? Will the process design and implementation be effective and efficient? This paper discusses all these impediments surrounding the adoption of e-invoicing.

Banking systems being mission critical often use systems designed decades ago when business requirements were very different.
Going Home - Talent Acquisition Strategies for Remote Agent Models - Which Road to Take?

Over the last ten years, interest in remote agent contact center models has steadily increased. For example, attendance at the 2012 Remote Agent Summit held in February in Dallas increased by 30% over 2011. And home agent models are not limited to the United States and Canada. Several firms are operating home agent models in Europe and a UK version of the US Remote Agent Summit is planned for July. Michele Rowan of At Home Customer Contacts which hosts the Remote Agent Summit and Workshops reports that survey results from the 2012 attendees indicate that their percentage of home agent population will double in size from 2012 to 2013 going from an estimated 18% to 36% of their customer contact population.

Why Cross-Industry Innovation is Important in Building Supply Chains

Suppliers, customers and competitors remain the traditional sources of innovation, although increasingly incremental and disruptive innovation is originating from outside a company's sphere of contacts and even outside its industry. This is true for a company as a whole and its supply chain in particular - as these become more complex and critical to the bottom line. Including and inculcating cross-industry innovation is therefore a necessity and a way of systematically expanding your pool of ideas to access the best supply chain practices across industries and organizations. Businesses today cannot be held back by insular supply chain solutions that worked in the past and needs to look at solution that are both deeper and wider for effective supply chain operations.

The Prospects of M2M - A Wipro and Stanford Thought Paper

While the future of M2M seems promising as a result of the advent of smart devices, traditional telemetry-based devices will still hold sway for several years to come. Currently, the impetus for M2M devices are business analytics based on access to the cloud. As these will migrate to the smart devices over time, it is time to implement appropriate business models and derive conclusions about industry prospects. The effect of the cloud will be significant because of its impact on the consumerization of business that will require the enabling of M2M for mobility at the user end. With the rapid evolution of the cloud and mobile devices with smart applications, it is now possible to conceive of larger components of the M2M eco-system being built around smart mobile devices.

Enterprise Service Transformation: The Holistic Approach that Increases Efficiency, Revenue and Customer Loyalty

With the increased consumerization of technology, consumers expect more personalization, faster response and a more consistent experience from the companies with which they do business. In most companies, sales and service act as independent units, with the sales function implementing its strategy to reach customers while the service function acts reactively, responding and handling customer complaints. However, these disparate departments actually cost organizations more in the long run. Consumerization can therefore be used to transform an organization's service business, increasing customer loyalty and turning this support area into a revenue generator, as well.

What Should You Worry About When Moving to the Cloud?

The increasing pervasiveness of social media combined with the growing popularity of the cloud means that the enterprise of today is no longer restricted to operating behind the walls of its corporate office. This extends to the IT landscape as well - technology is expected to integrate business partners and customers into its fold while maximizing its investments. <br />
<br />
While more and more organizations jump onto the cloud bandwagon, the issue of data security is seldom addressed at the IT level. According to Gartner, barely 75 percent of organizations see information integrity hampering their business objectives and only 41 percent has a formal plan to address it.

Reinventing the Telecom Equipment Industry: What Network Equipment Providers need to do to achieve profitable growth

Growth in network traffic has grown exponentially in the past decade and is poised to explode in the coming future. This has fundamentally been facilitated by rapid and effective innovation in the underlying technologies which have underpinned the core infrastructure. While network operators have opened up their architecture to adopt rapid R&D advances, there is a growing trend seen in TEVs (Telecom Equipment Vendors) doing far more with much less. <br />
<br />
TEVs have clearly focused on an iterative developmental approach to bring out flexible and wide ranging product portfolios. As revenue return on R&D is being questioned, TEVs can benefit from working with a wide variety of partners to complement in-house expertise, thereby accelerating time to market. In today's increasingly competitive telecommunications industry, collaboration can serve as a platform for 'profitable' innovation.

Mobility in manufacturing - Optimizing process and productivity

Just like almost every other industry in today's sluggish economy, the manufacturing sector is under intense pressure from customers and competitors, as well as partners and suppliers, for faster speed to market and addressing emerging business opportunities. Smart companies realize that the best way to increase capability and extend reach while controlling costs is by successfully amalgamating sophisticated technology with improvements in business processes. Mobility is one such recent technology trend that shows excellent promise for enterprise-oriented strategies. While implementing a mobility strategy allows enterprises to address issues of productivity and efficiency, creating an enterprise mobility strategy requires a certain amount of foresight and planning. The entire process would require an experienced partner as enterprise mobility would require process changes and the involvement of personnel necessitating organizational tactics.

Mobility's competitive edge: How enterprise applications are transforming business

Surfing the coming wave of regulatory reforms

Financial crisis across the world has led to stringent rules and regulations being enforced on banking and financial institutions. Never before have risk management, balance sheet structure, business models, codes of conduct, due diligence and internal controls received so much focus. The fallout of this regulatory pressure has been that organizations are setting the wheels in motion to change their IT systems for Basel III and Dodd-Frank compliance. The single greatest challenge banks are facing in compliance is data quality. In most cases, Wipro believes that financial firms will strike a balance between in-house and outsourced solutions. This white paper, produced jointly by Compliance Week and Wipro Technologies, offers insights into how leading financial-industry players are tackling these challenges, in particular from the IT perspective.

Toward an Integrated Digital Workplace

The enterprise's digital workplace has evolved radically over the past decade. While workplace efficiency focus over the years has been on making information available, information sources have simultaneously mushroomed as silos of applications in an enterprise. Many digital workplace tools and applications are disconnected, requiring the knowledge worker to toggle between various applications and systems using various toolsets to complete a single task.<br />
<br />
Integrating workplace applications and tools can help completing tasks quicker, leading to substantial productivity gains. Therefore, it is critical for enterprises to identify potential opportunities to integrate the various workplace tools and business applications to provide a seamless, personalized and contextual user experience that will have a significant impact on the overall business outcomes.<br />
<br />
In this white paper, we highlight the possibilities and benefits of enhancing the effectiveness of the online digital workplace by integrating existing business tools and applications.

Entity Extraction to Visual Discovery

Estimates of 80% or higher of the "Collective Knowledge Pool" within an organization is contained within Unstructured Information (text-based documents). Emails, Analysis Reports, Field Observation Notes, Interviews; for the most part unstructured text information. Making sense of that information requires more than just the ability to search for a word within it. To leverage this information the application of "meaning" is required. The Rocket AeroText product suite provides a fast, agile information extraction system for developing knowledge-based content analysis applications. The technology excels at developing a core understanding of content contained within unstructured text, such as emails and documents, as well as an ability to reconcile automatically information cited across multiple documents. Such a capability makes it suited for a variety of applications, from counter-terrorism and law enforcement to business intelligence and enterprise content management.

Gearing Up for Network Ubiquity

The growth of the Internet in the last three decades has been immense. This steady growth is picking up pace and is creating a new pervasive paradigm in communications and computing. Rapid digitization and the emergence of the next generation of communications technology have had an impact on both enterprises and their customers. As we move into an all IP-world, communications would encompass a large variety of consumers-to-devices and increasingly devices-to-device communications, making it extremely important that IP also evolve to the next level. Unfortunately, most businesses still rely on IPv4 addresses which have already been exhausted.<br />
<br />
Since an IPv6 migration is an imperative, operators and businesses need to plan accordingly and in advance to ensure business continuity requirements. The large scale adoption of IPv6 will not only make the Internet more efficient and secure, it will also be a gateway into the digital world with new revenue sources and models.

Data Center Economics - Analyzing Challenges & Opportunities

As enterprises contend with more and more data, data center strategy that can variablize IT spend while maintain business agility becomes essential. Thus, assessing and targeting data center challenges at an early stage are crucial for operational efficiency. Not just hardware, but data center software issues can pose critical challenges born out of geographies and complexity of acquisitions. Outsourcing Center and Wipro conducted a survey that included 75 CIOs and Heads of IT from Fortune 1000 companies across US, Europe and APAC that aimed to determine the current state of organizations' data centers as well as explore the attitudes and challenges towards data center optimization.<br />
<br />
The conclusion of the survey findings is that to meet current data center challenges, organizations must take measures to consolidate data centers and look at outsourcing arrangements and alternate models of data center management. However, due to the large investment in time and costs involved, this is not taking place at the desired pace. The benefits of new approaches to the data center in terms of efficiency and cost-savings must be better understood and explored
