This document explains the trajectory of the telecommunications industry is clear. Service providers - and forward-thinking business customers - have embraced the concept of next-generation networks for many good reasons: cost, value, operational benefits and, above all, access to exciting new services and features. Cisco IP Next-Generation Networks are all about IP everywhere, information andmmunications convergence, multimedia, and services convergence onto unified networks. A primary component in this evolution is the emergence of SIP as an underpinning technology for multimedia communication. SIP provides the capability to meet the communications needs of today, and also establishes a foundation for new services in the future.
