This paper describes that Service providers worldwide have increasingly turned to Ethernet technologies due to their scalability, simplicity, increasingly sophisticated management features, and lower costs as compared to older networking technologies. With the ratification of new standards, Ethernet has evolved to the point where it is now a viable carrier interconnect solution as well.
