The typical 1000-employee company processes about 18.8 gigabytes of email every day, according to the Radicati Group. Handling ever-larger volume is just one of many challenges IT departments face in managing corporate email. They must meet employee demands such as larger mailboxes, mobile access, and greater freedom in collaboration-while trying to mitigate hardware, software, and maintenance costs. In a recent focus group study, IT managers running on-premise email also listed disaster recovery, spam/malware and storage management as core concerns.
