This paper describes that the small business today require high-performance, high functionality switches for both 10/100 and Gigabit Ethernet deployments. Businesses deploying VoIP solutions will also require switches that deliver Power over Ethernet. quality of service and Voice VLANs. With respect to ecoomics, switches should be easy to use, to help lower administrative costs, offer attractive cost-per-Gigabit and, where appropriate, cost-per-Watt of PoE delivered.
